Defensive Coaching Staff

Brock McCullough
Associate Head Coach

Brock McCullough is in his eighth year with the SU staff and his seventh as a full-time member. In March 2007, McCullough was promoted to full-time status as the university expanded the full-time staff to four members.

In March 2008, McCullough was promoted again, this time to defensive coordinator. McCullough coordinated the Hornets defense from March 2008 thru the end of the 2012 season.

At the start of the 2012 campaign, McCullough served as the acting head coach of the program for summer camp and the first game of the year. In this role, he led SU to its only win of the year, a 26-16 victory over Stevenson.

From November 2012 until January 2013, McCullough served as the program's interim head coach.

In the spring of 2013, McCullough was promoted a third time, this time to Associate Head Coach. He also shifted his primary coaching responsibility to the offensive side of the ball.

McCullough originally came to Shenandoah in August 2004 after serving as the defensive backs and strength coach at Grove City in 2003.

Prior to his experience at Grove City, McCullough worked for two seasons as the outside linebackers and wide receivers coach at Division II Clarion University.

As a player at Grove City, McCullough was selected to the 2000 Aztec Bowl.

He and his wife, Jen, have two daughters: Rowan and Kennedy.


Kalvin Oliver
Assistant Coach - Defensive Line

Kalvin Oliver is in his 10th season as an assistant coach with the football program after completing his eligibility in the fall of 2003.

In June 2012, Oliver was promoted from his part-time role into a full-time position and is possesses the longest tenure of anyone on the SU staff.

Oliver has been involved in the program since it was reinstated in 2000.

He was one of 13 players that came to SU to help start the program in 2000 and stayed all four years. During his playing career, Oliver played in all 39 games and is second all-time in sacks with 11.

His primary coaching responsibility is with the defensive line.


Drake Woodward
Assistant Coach - Defensive Backs

Another new face on the SU football staff is former Hobart College All-America Drake Woodard.

Woodard, a 2012 Hobart grad, earned All-America honors at defensive back following his 2011 senior season and was a four-time All-Liberty League first team honoree.

He capped his career by being named as the 2012 recipient of the Francis L. 'Babe' Kraus Memorial Award for the outstanding senior athlete at Hobart College.

In the fall of 2012 as he was completing his student teaching requirements, Woodard served the Statesmen as the wide receivers coach.

With the Hornets, Woodard heads up the defensive backs unit.


Joel Elmquist
Assistant Coach - LB's

Returning to the staff this season is former local high school coach Joel Elmquist.

Elmquist, who was part of a Pitt-Johnstown team that participated in two NCAA Division II playoffs in the mid-1990's, came to Shenandoah from nearby Sherando H.S. in August 2009.

A part of Bill Hall's staff for five years, Elmquist served as the Warriors freshman offensive coordinator and coached quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs, linebackers and defensive backs.

With the Hornets, Elmquist serves as a assistant linebackers coach.
